Etihad flights

Etihad is the national airline of Abu Dhabi. Although Etihad has only been in business since 2003, it is already the UAE’s second largest airline. In 2015, it carried 14.8 million passengers. Ethihad’s head office is in Khalifa City next to Abu Dhabi International Airport, the airline’s main base.

Every week, Etihad operates more than 1,000 flights flying to more than 120 destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, Australia, and the Middle East. Etihad Airways flights are available from several UK airports including London, Edinburgh, and Doncaster.

Etihad Airways are focused on providing the best of Arabian hospitality, a focus which has led to them earning a 5-star rating from Skytrax. Etihad has also won numerous awards in recognition of its service, particularly its First and Business Class offerings. In 2009, Etihad was honoured with the World’s Best Business Class award from the World Travel Awards. The following year, Etihad won the World’s Best First Class award, this time from Skytrax. Then in 2013, Etihad won all three awards in the First Class Category: "Best First Class", "Best First Class Seats" and "Best First Class Catering".

Service on board

Etihad Airways offer free in-flight meals for all classes. Menus are handed out prior to take-off, and the type of menu offered varies depending on the flight distance. Typical meals include harissa chicken, lamb biryani, and penne pasta. Those with dietary requirements, such as vegetarians, should request their meals in advance. This can be done using Etihad’s website. Each seat has its own in-flight entertainment system (E-Box), allowing you to sit back, relax, and take your mind off the flight. The E-Box contains on-demand movies, TV shows, audio, games, and live TV on certain flights.

Booking fees

Etihad do not charge booking fees when booking your flight, however fees may be charged if you cancel or change your booking. Etihad’s ‘Global Contact Centres’ charge a Global Service Fee for changes or cancellations to bookings, for example. These fees do not apply if you make the changes through the ‘Manage My Booking’ section of the website.

On the A380, the main aircraft used for Etihad flights between London and Abu Dhabi, the seats have a pitch (the distance between your seat and the chair in front of you) of 31 and a width of 17.5 in Coral Economy. Seats in Pearl Business have a pitch of 73 and a width of 20. Seats in First Class have a pitch of 80 and a width of 29.5. If extra legroom is a priority, it’s worth upgrading to a seat that has extra legroom. These seats can be booked online, but may not be available on Etihad partner flights.
